چکیده

The purposes of the present s tudy have been to explore the possibility of producing a strongly active fibrinolytic system in the circulating blood of rabbits by intravenous injections of streptokinase and to observe its effect on art ificially induced intravascular clots. In developing the study, a number of quantitative estimations have been made pertaining to the streptococcal fibrinolytic system as it occurs in rabbit 's blood. The determinations have included streptokinase and plasminogen levels, streptokinase-activated plasmin (SK-plasmin), serum inhibitor (antiplasmin), fibrinogen, and acid soluble N. Measurements have been made before, during, and after the intravenous injection and protracted infusion of solutions, containing SK. These findings have been applied to the development of a method for the lysis of intravascular clots by creating an effective lyric system in the general circulation through the intravenous use of SK.

Conventional Biphasic Broth Blood Culture System

In a comparative fungal blood culture study, a lysis-centrifugation system (Isolator; Du Pont Co., Wilmington, Del.) detected 89% of all episodes of fungemia; the lysis-centrifugation system detected fungemia exclusively or significantly earlier than did a biphasic brain heart infusion bottle system 83% of the time. The lysis-centriguation system was particularly useful in the early detection o...

Acute Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation in Neuroendocrine Carcinoma

Malignancy is a common cause of disseminated intravascular coagulation and usually presents as a chronic disorder in solid organ tumours. We present a rare case of recurrent acute disseminated intravascular coagulation in neuroendocrine carcinoma after manipulation, firstly, by core biopsy and, later, by cytotoxic therapy causing a release of procoagulants and cytokines from lysed tumour cells....

Anticoagulant, Antiplatelet, and Fibrinolytic (Thrombolytic) Drugs

Little intravascular coagulation of blood occurs in normal physiological conditions. Hemostasis involves the interplay of three procoagulant phases (vascular, platelet, and coagulation) that promote blood clotting to prevent blood loss (Fig. 22.1). The fibrinolytic system prevents propagation of clotting beyond the site of vascular injury and is involved in clot dissolution, or lysis (Fig. 22.2...

The pathophysiology of disease in patients with paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria.

Paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH) is an acquired hemolytic anemia caused by the expansion of a hematopoietic progenitor cell that has acquired a mutation in the X-linked PIGA gene. PNH occurs on the background of bone marrow failure. Bone marrow failure and the presence of the abnormal cells account for the clinical phenotype of patients with PNH including hemolysis, cytopenia, and thro...
